This exciting program is designed for well-rounded students interested in exploring the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with a particular focus on geosciences. If you're eager to learn, explore, and prepare for a future in STEM, this is the opportunity for you!
What You Will Explore
As part of the Ninth Grade Academy, students will dive into Geology 101 and discover the fascinating processes that shape our planet. Here’s a glimpse of what participants can expect:
Hands-On Field Experiences
Engage in interactive activities that bring geological concepts to life, from conducting field studies to gathering data in real-world settings.
Guided Tours
Explore significant geological locations with expert guides, learning about Earth’s history and the processes that have shaped its landscapes.
Hike Geologic Wonders
Experience the beauty of nature firsthand by hiking through unique geologic formations and discovering the features that make them special.

- GeoFORCE West: June 8 – 14, 2025
- GeoFORCE East: June 15 – 21, 2025
Program Structure
The academies will accommodate 90 rising ninth graders, selected from across Texas and assigned to regional cohorts. Each academy will be led by full-time coordinators and staffed by college-aged counselors, faculty instructors, and school teachers.
Looking Ahead: Summer of 2026
In summer 2026, GeoFORCE Texas will expand its horizons with an exciting adventure to Utah and Arizona. Participants will explore breathtaking natural wonders, including:
- Zion National Park
- Bryce Canyon
- Glen Canyon
- Antelope Canyon
- The Grand Canyon
- Lowell Observatory
- Barringer Meteor Crater
This journey promises hands-on learning, stunning landscapes, and an exploration of the geological features that define these iconic locations.

Application Requirements
- General Information: Provide details about yourself, including a personal email and a parent or guardian’s email.
- Final Report Card: Submit your report card from the last academic year (2023-2024).
- Short Essay Questions: Answer the following questions with 3-10 sentences each:
- How would being in GeoFORCE impact your life?
- What aspect or field of STEM most interests you?
- Describe a time when you faced adversity.
Important Dates
- Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted by midnight on January 31, 2025.
- Interviews for Round 2: Students selected for the second round will be interviewed in mid-February.
